If you haven’t heard, there is this way cool thing called Stitch n’ Pitch. It’s an organization that coordinates a needle craft event at one game at each of the MLB stadiums during the season. You purchase special tickets in a certain section and you are surrounded by other crafters! Everyone around you is also knitting, crocheting, or doing some other needle craft. And with some games, depending on where you purchase your tickets, you receive gift bags or free yarn with your ticket price. It’s a great outing and a fun gathering for a knitting group!
I went with my friends in San Diego (the Clairemont Hookers and Knitters) and we had so much fun! Take in a little baseball (I looked up a couple times, I think), some good knitting and crochet time, have a hot dog and a beer - the perfect Sunday afternoon with friends. Here’s a picture of us at the game. We were even given embroidered Stitch n’ Pitch Padres hats!
I moved to NYC this summer, and lucky for me, the Mets game Stitch n’ Pitch was the end of September! My roommate and I went and met some knitting celebrities! Debbie Stoller, Wenlan Chia, and Kay Gardiner were all there, and so friendly. Despite the cold and misting rain, we had a great time. My favorite part is looking around at other people’s projects, and meeting fellow yarn-lovers. (= Left a little early, I have to admit, but found ourselves on the subway back to Manhattan with Kay Gardiner and many other knitters. Everyone else who got on the subway after us were puzzled by the number of knitters on this one train. Very entertaining.
Games are all done for the season, but be sure to check it out for next summer! For more info, visit their website at:
